Card Swipe: How to Register Your Card:
The first time you swipe your ID, you will be asked to enter your username and password. This “registers” your card on the system (associates your card with your username and password). If you go to File > Print without registering first, there will be no jobs listed. It is best to remind students to register first.
Enter firstname.lastname (NO @assumption). It is technically possible to enter the full email address. (Indeed, IT instructs people to do this.) However, this becomes a problem for students with long names. Although the HoundPrint touch screen allows a long name, the computer will reject it--meaning, they can register their card fine but never release a job from a computer! If this happens, they have to go to IT to get their account wiped out from HoundPrint, then register again using only firstname.lastname.
    Guest Access:
Only members of the AC community with a Houndmail account may print. To allow guests to print, please log in with the following account:

We must keep a close eye on the copy card. We have only a few cards left, to replace it each time it goes missing. We need to teach users to ask a staff member for the card, rather than helping themselves.

    HoundPrint on Mobile Devices:
The mobile option requires sending a print job to an email address, and receiving an email back. This email that you receive back prompts you to register your AC Username and Password on the server the first time (in the same way that you register your ID card the first time). Please read the instructions on accomplishing this carefully. I imagine students will skip this step, send their job, and come to us and wonder why their job is not listed. If this happens, they will have to log back into their email account, look for the email message with prompt to register their UN/PW, and follow the instructions from there. The whole process can take up to 40 minutes.

When you see the message An internal server error occurred. No suitable printer available: Printer is reporting Offline state. Please contact Pharos support, this just means the printer either needs paper (in both trays) or toner. Nothing is wrong with HoundPrint, and there is no reason to notify IT. You just need to fill the trays or change toner. If you have questions, call me.

You may want to put a yellow post-it on the monitor of each computer after you're finished, so you can direct students to the computers that are able to print.
Try to add the printer that is closest to the computer. I do half the room on Printer 1, half on Printer 2, and the printer station on Printer 3.

    Operating the Scanner
All images from the scanner are automatically deleted, after the user ends the scan session. The delete is irreversible. This is good for privacy, but users should be aware of it.
There is a time-out feature (about 1 min?), so users should be fairly quick when flipping pages.
Printing has been enabled again! Tap Print, then tap out your username, using the blue on-screen keyboard. KIC passes the info to the HoundPrint box.
Scanning instructions document (posted on scanner cabinet, under monitor):

Things to know about the KIC scanner and computer:
The Windows/AC network user is administrator, not libstudent. (For full username and password, see the password for Systems doc in the pink SYSTEMS binder in my office, on the N drive, or on the library staff website.) The computer logs in to this account automatically.
There is a keyboard and mouse behind the computer on the lower shelf.
To exit the scanner software, use the keyboard and mouse. Hit Control+Alt+Delete > Start Task Manager > Applications tab > select KIC > hit End Task.

    Databases:
I created an Excel spreadsheet with vendor contact information. It's available on the N drive: N:\SYSTEMS\SUPPORT.xlsx. This has the most up-to-date info.
We are working to update 360 with contact information for technical support. I have added each contact with the last name Technical Support (e.g. [first name] LexisNexis [last name] Technical Support). Go to Contacts and scroll down to the last names beginning with T. You can also pull up the record for the particular database/service, and click on Contacts in the navigation bar. However, I don't know how up-to-date these contacts are. It is best to use the SUPPORT spreadsheet on the N drive.

All AC services, including Library services, blocked intentionally. All email problems are also blocked, even with a non-AC email address (e.g., a Hotmail email address within Outlook). VPN is also blocked. Webmail (e.g., Gmail) is not blocked.
If someone wants to use Library resources, they must use our public computers.

Use documents below for help. Feel free to give copies out to guests for them to keep and use again in the future. Feel free to keep copies at the Ref desk and Circ desk.
